The May Day Wrap is a great beginner project (or a relaxing knitting project for a more experienced knitter). With a garter stitch border, it gives beginners plenty of time to practice the 'knit' stitch before learning to purl. And the blocks of stockinette and reverse stockinette give it visual interest. The silk in the yarn used - Sincere Sheep's Luminous DK - gives the wrap a wonderful drape.
Our Row House Tutorial Design integrates our skills videos via hotlinks in the PDF to teach you knitting basics, and it is for beginners. You do not need any previous knitting experience.

FINISHED DIMENSIONS:
The finished dimensions are 22" wide, 66" long, blocked (and the design teaches you what blocking is - it isn't hard). It is a rectangular shape. The model is in the May Day color that the design was named for.
GAUGE:
17 1/2 sts & 25 rows = 10 cm/4 in in blocked stockinette stitch, using 5mm (US 8) needles, although matching gauge exactly isn't necessary for this project. We've chosen to knit the DK weight yarn on larger needles than normal to get a looser fabric with more drape.
MATERIALS:
Any DK weight yarn. We used Sincere Sheep Luminous DK (3 skeins of yarn) because the added silk gives it a bit more softness and shine. For other yarns, you will need approximately 905 m (990 yds). Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.
Size 5 mm (or US 8) straight or circular needles
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle for weaving in the ends
Scissors (not included in the kit)
