Pascuali's Story

What led to you becoming a yarn producer?

Pascuali logo

My name is Paul Pascuali, and I’m the founder of Pascuali Yarns. I was born in Germany but spent my childhood in Argentina. I returned to Germany in 2003. My journey into yarn production started back in 2006 when I started selling handmade Argentine ponchos made with wool, which sparked my passion for creating yarns. I later studied textile technology to deepen my understanding of the production process. Today, I’m committed to creating high-quality, sustainable yarns that are cherished by knitters around the world.

Where do you create? Do you have a team?

My company headquarters is located in Pulheim, Germany. Over the years, my team has expanded, bringing together dedicated employees who share my passion for producing high-quality yarn. We place a strong emphasis on sustainability and ethical sourcing, collaborating closely with suppliers from around the globe who are equally committed to responsible practices and environmental responsibility. I also work with spinning mills that are not only sustainable but also produce with the highest quality. These are spinning mills that produce for brands like Brunello Cucinelli and Chanel, and supply us exclusively with handknitting yarns. This collaboration ensures that my products are not only exceptional but are also created with integrity and care for the people, the animals, and nature.

 What inspires you?

What inspires me in my work is my passion for high-quality, sustainable yarns and the joy of providing knitters with exceptional products. I take great pleasure in sourcing unique fibers from around the world, each with its own distinct story. I find it incredibly rewarding to contribute and support the well-being of the communities where I source these yarns. Being part of an industry that champions slow fashion fills me with pride, and I am committed to raising awareness about our collective responsibility to protect the environment.

In the Fall and Winter, I particularly enjoy the cozy atmosphere that invites people to knit and create. It’s a season that perfectly aligns with what we strive to promote in our products.

Can you walk us through one of your yarns from start to finish?

Sure, let's take one of our newest yarns and one I am very proud of: Sayama. I recently traveled to Bolivia to oversee the whole production. The journey of Sayama yarn began with a vision to capture the majestic beauty of Mount Sajama in Bolivia and the colors of Bolivian culture. Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes and the unique qualities of llama wool, I set out to create a yarn that embodies the essence of this magical place. The idea was to blend luxurious llama fibers with Bolivian highland wool, resulting in a perfect balance of lightness and durability suited for Scandinavian-style knitting.

The llamas that provide the wool for Sayama are owned by local herders in Bolivia where they thrive in the high-altitude grasslands. These herders maintain a deep respect for their animals, which have been domesticated for thousands of years and play a crucial role in the local culture. The wool is collected through a careful shearing process, yielding about eight pounds of fiber every two years. Llama wool is naturally free from oils, maintaining its weight and properties during processing.
