Merino d'Arles is a special fingering weight yarn from Rosy Green Wool. It's spun from the fleece of Merino d'Arles sheep, a crossbreed of old native French sheep and Merinos first imported from Spain by Louis XVI. The Merino d'Arles sheep are guided over hundreds of kilometers from Southern France to the lush meadows of the Alps during the summer in an old tradition called 'transhumance' which was adopted in 1806 for the Merino d'Arles sheep. Rosy Green Wool partners with small manufacturers in England to spin and dye the wool according to strict GOTS standards. It is GOTS-certified, which means that it is grown, processed, and dyed in an environmentally sustainable way.
GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certification requires that all stages of the production are ecologically, environmentally, and ethically sustainable from start to finish. The growing conditions, dye processes, waste water treatment, and fair and ethical working conditions must meet GOTS standards. GOTS is the only internationally recognized organic certification.
