Wings for Frida Kahlo Shawl Kit
"Feet, what do I need them for if I have wings to fly?" -- Frida Kahlo
The stripes in this garter stitch shawl are redolent of the artist's native land, Mexico. Frida wore native costume, shawls, scarves, and flowers in her hair at a time when tailored dresses, suits, and couture were the style of the day. She used her imagination to help her cope with injuries from an accident early in her life.
Wings for Frida Kahlo borrows on the traditions of a beginning garter knit tab plus the Faroe Island shoulder shaping technique, resulting in a simple shawl that is designed to stay on your shoulders. Worked in garter stitch, this is a warm, comfortable shawl. Directions are given for working the stripes as pictured, or you can play with the color and place your stripes wherever they "feel right" to you.
