Loft is a lace weight blend of 70% kid mohair and 30% silk. It is spun in South Africa where the mohair is sourced from a farm that adheres to the Responsible Mohair Standard, and it is hand dyed in Neighborhood Fiber Company's Baltimore studio. By itself, it creates a light, wispy knitted fabric perfect for warm weather knitting. Loft is also a great choice to knit together with another yarn (or marl) when you want to add a halo or tell a richer color story in your project. Loft's mohair halo makes it suitable for knitting on larger needles to achieve a variety of knitting gauges.
Subtle color variations are achieved through kettle dyeing. As this yarn is kettle dyed in small batches, each batch may be a little bit different, and we recommend buying all of the yarn you need for a project at one time. We also suggest alternating skeins when knitting projects, as each skein is unique.
Loft has an extreme halo, low stitch definition, and a very soft drape.
Neighborhood Fiber Company recommends washing in Eucalan wool wash, as they have experienced problems with other wool washes.
